Safety and Security Tips for Home or Office
Here's a few reminders for things to consider to help keep you and others safe.
For Your Office
- Walk Assertively
- Avoid walking alone
- Stay in well lit areas
- Avoid overloading your arms - keep a hand free
- Never leave personal belongings or information unattended
- Keep all keys in a secure place
- Ask a supervisor if a stranger is supposed to be there.
- Know your security system: Cameras, Security Officers, etc.
Your Home
- Never give personal information over the phone, ask for the request in writing.
- Trim shrubs, and landscapes so you can see a perpetrator
- Post all emergency numbers by the phone.
- Engrave your valuables
- Copy all serial numbers on to the manual, add pictures of items, and place information in the safe
- When moving into a new home, replace all the locks.
- Make sure all exterior doors have hinges on the inside
- Always use smoke detectors
- Carbon monoxide testers are highly recommended
- Always report suspicious vehicles or activity around your home to the police department
In Your Absence
- Set interior lights on timers
- Never leave information about your absence. i.e.: be back in a week
- Ask a trusted neighbor or relative to pick up the newspapers/ mail
- Secure and brace all sliding doors
